Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film is a terpolymer-based barrier film, alcohol-free and petrolatum-free, that forms a transparent and breathable coating on the skin. It is designed to protect the skin from friction, adhesive trauma, and bodily fluids, providing prolonged protection for up to 72 hours.

Indications and area of use

Indicated for the protection of fragile or irritated skin: incontinence dermatitis, peristomal areas, peri-lesional zones, stage 1 and 2 pressure ulcers with low exudate, protection against adhesive trauma, and for large areas (e.g., sacral region, limbs). It can be used in hospitals, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, and at home. It is suitable for adults, children, and infants aged ≥1 month (follow local protocols).

Advantages and clinical features

The film is hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and non-cytotoxic. Transparent, it allows for easy monitoring of the skin; it does not soak diapers and can be applied under dressings or bandages without compromising breathability. Ideal for patients with fragile skin, ostomates, or those requiring frequent dressing changes. The alcohol-free formulation reduces burning on damaged skin; protection lasts up to 72 hours under normal conditions, with reapplication recommended every 48-72 hours or as needed.

Application method and precautions

Apply to clean, dry skin. Hold the bottle 10-15 cm away from the skin and spray a thin, even layer; allow to dry (~30 seconds) before reapplying diapers or devices. Avoid using as the sole protection in the presence of deep wounds, infected areas, or sites requiring moisture-proof dressings (e.g., intravenous insertion sites). Avoid excess layers (they may harden). Application under electrodes may alter diagnostic readings.
